<p>A polymeric tetra-aryl polymethine dye of the general formula <CHEM> in which: A comprises a conjugated chain of carbon atoms having an equal number of double and single bonds, each R independently represents an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms R<1> represents -NR2 or <CHEM> and X<-> represents an anion. The dyes are suitable for use as recording media in optical recording elements in which information may be recorded and read directly afterwards by means of laser light.</p> |
