PURPOSE: To prevent an insert edge from being damaged by machining a part extending along a cutting blade of a chip surface in an inclined manner in a cutting insert for a plane milling cutter, and continuously increasing the edge angle toward a corner. CONSTITUTION: This insert 10 is provided with a top surface 11 and a bottom surface 12 forming chip surfaces, these surfaces are arranged parallel to each other, and continuous to clearance faces 13. A main cutting blade 14 and a sub cutting blade 15 are arranged on a circumferential edge of the top surface 11. The main cutting blade 14 is arranged along one imaginary rectangle, and the sub cutting blade 15 is arranged outside the rectangle. Each corner 16 of the insert 10 is provided a plurality of inclined local parts 45, 47 arranged on the edges of adjacent end faces to reinforce the corner. The chip surface includes an inclined surface part 17 in each corner 16 of the insert. The inclined surface part 17 is extended therealong from the sub cutting blade 15 for at least one half length of the main cutting blade 14. The boundary of the inclined surface part 17 is formed by an inner limit line 18 on the plane P. |
