PURPOSE:To provide a long life manganese battery of high quality by including a specific amount of gaseous phase pyrolytic carbon fibers as carbon powder of positive electrode black mix. CONSTITUTION:A manganese battery according to the present invention includes a negative electrode active substance consisting of zinc, an electrolyte chiefly containing ammon chloride, zinc chloride, etc., or a one chiefly containing caustic alkali, and a positive electrode active substance chiefly containing manganese dioxide, wherein the pos. elect. active substance shall contain 1-10wt.% fine carbon fibers made through pyrolysis by gaseous phase method (VGCF). This VGCF has an extremely high electroconductivity and has a low density under pressurization to provide excellent liquid retaining property, and further the voids in thin parts at 10kg/cm<2> is as high as over 90%. This enables including a large quantity of manganese dioxide in pos. elect. active substance, which achieves a battery having long life. |
