PURPOSE:To improve heat efficiency and to easily obtain semisteel by connecting a scrap heating and melting tower with end part of an iron bath type smelting reduction furnace (iron bath furnace) and utilizing reduced high temp. exhaust gas generated in the iron bath furnace to the scrap melting. CONSTITUTION:Iron ore and coal are charged into the iron bath furnace 1 and oxygen gas is blown and the iron ore is reduced to obtain molten iron 5. Then, the generated exhaust gas is passed through the scrap 3 piled in the cupola type scrap heating and melting tower 2 set at the end part of the above furnace 1 to melt the scrap. The melted scrap 7 is mixed with the molten iron obtd. with the above furnace 1 to make the semi-steel 9. Successively, this steel 9 is discharged from molten metal basin 8.
