PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of a liquid developer by using pump propulsive work generated with the pulling of a belt, in the liquid developer and sealing the upper part of a developing region. CONSTITUTION: The belt 10 having a photoconductive surface is inclined with respect to gravity exerted in a developing station C, the liquid developer 62 is pumped into a gap 60 through an entrance port 66 and a part of the liquid developer 62 in the gap 60 is transferred together with the belt 10 against a gravitational component, when the belt 10 is transferred. The developer 62 transferred to the upper part defects the propulsion of a pump and the exerted gravity, so that the developer 62 is prevented from dropping from the lower part of the developing region and a pressure barrier is formed by the developer 62 transferred together with the belt 10. On the outer hand, for preventing the developer 62 from leaking out from the uppermost part of a developer region, means 74 and 78 for sealing the uppermost part are provided. Thus, the leakage of the developer 62 from the developer region can be prevented. |
