PURPOSE:To rapidly obtain a reproduction output signal at the time of transfer from stop to reproduction by using the stored contents of a memory as a reproduced output until the stable reproduction state of a tape is attained. CONSTITUTION:The tape 1 is made to travel for the time adding the time margin T1 to the time required from the stop to the traveling in the reproduction state of the tape. This reproduction signal and address signal are stored into the memory 5 and the contents of the memory 5 are used as the reproduced output until the stable reproduction state of the tape 1 is attained. The reading out position from the memory 5 is changed to the position where the writing of the signal reproduced from the tape 1 and the address signal into the memory 5 is started as the reproduced output signal when the address signal read out of the memory 5 and the address signal reproduced from the tape 1 and written in the memory 5 coincide upon attainment of the stable reproduction state.
