The dipole loudspeaker consists of transducers fitted in the front and rear faces of a cabinet and separated by sound absorbent material. Each transducer consists of a thin diaphragm (16, 17) sandwiched between, but separated from, two static capacitor plates (18, 19; 21, 22). The diaphragm is made of conductive material and the capacitor plates are made from sheets of pierced metal of networks of wire. The a.f. signal is fed to the prim. (24) of an interface transformer. The ends of the sec. winding (23) are connected to one plate in each transducer. A centre-tap (26) on the sec. is connected to the commoned diaphragms via a d.c. voltage source (27).
|
