Colour cathode ray tube includes a shadow mask coated with a layer consisting of amorphous metal oxide and or hydroxide binder together with metal, metal oxide, carbide and or nitride filler. Pref. the layer is formed on the surface of the shadow mask facing the electron gun. Elastic reflection of the electron beams is decreased and picture contrast and purity drift characteristics are improved.
