<p>The sluice gates have curved walls (4), supported by a sector shaped structures (5, 6), which allows the gates to pivot on vertical shafts (7) set into the sides of the gate aperture. Water from the upstream or downstream side of the sluice is channeled (24 or 23) into the hydrostatic control device (2), which consists of a rectangular float inside a rectangular tank. As the float rises or falls, the movement is coupled to a horizontal rotary shaft (9) by a rack and pinion gear (8, 10). The shaft rotates in bearings (22) in the side of the tank (11) and has a crank arm (12, 13) which operates the gates via systems of levers (15, 14, 16, 17).</p> |
