PURPOSE:To enable easy production of ketones in high conversion and high yield by using a specific bis-cobalt complex as a catalyst to effect the oxidation reaction of a secondary alcohol with an oxygen-containing gas CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a cobalt complex catalyst of formula I [R<3>, R<5>, R<6>, R<8> are H, alkyl, aryl, perfluoroalkyl, CO2R<9> (R<9> is alkyl, aryl), CONR<10> R<11> (R<10>, R<11> are H, alkyl); R<4>, R<7> are H, alkyl, -COOR<12> (R<12> is H, alkyl), halogen] such as bis(2,4-pentanedionato)cobalt (II)], a secondary alcohol of formula II (R<1>, R<2> are alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, arylalkyl) such as 2-decanol is allowed to react with an oxygen-containing gas to give a ketone such as 2-decanone. |
