Device for self-destruction, self-erasure or self-disabling after reading a magnetic tape used in audio or video cassettes. The invention consists of a stop A which releases a tie L and is driven by an elastic element R which sets into place: - either, by means of an articulated arm D, a destructive element E on the tape C, the element E possibly being a mechanical element, a magnetic element, or a carrier of chemical products; - or a return locking system consisting of a tongue D placed in contact with the teeth of the reel B disabling the latter during rotation reverse to the reading direction, and of a system for locking by stays H fastening together two half-mouldings G,G' of an inertial disabling system limiting the tape winding (or unwinding) speed. <IMAGE>
