Gas analysis. Process for determining the ethylene oxide present in a gas mixture by infrared absorption, in which methane or a gas containing methane is employed as a selective filter. Initially, measurements made with series of calibration gas mixtures, one containing methane, the other ethylene oxide, make it possible to determine a correspondence factor between the measured values for the two types of calibration gas mixtures. Next, after a recalibration with calibration gas mixtures based on methane, a gas mixture containing an unknown content of ethylene oxide can be determined and its ethylene oxide content can be deduced from the measured value, the initially determined correspondence factor being known. Use by users of sterilising mixtures based on ethylene oxide, for example hospitals.
