The windscreen wiper 1 includes a wiper element carrier assembly 2 with a head 3 intended to be fixed to a drive shaft, and a support member 5 extending radially with respect to the said shaft and articulated onto the head 3 about a transverse axis 6. The support member 5 is intended to carry a wiper element 7 towards its end which is distant from the head 3. This support member 5 includes a central cutout 9 the bottom 11 of which is close to the transverse axis 6 about which the said member is articulated onto the head 3, this cutout 9 being bounded by two branches 12, 13 which are extended by two support elements 15, 16 so that the windscreen wiper element 7 is engaged in the said cutout 9 and so that its inner radial edge 18 is close to the head 3. <IMAGE>
