<p>A personal multi-purpose navigational instrument (1) which can be hand held and portable for transporting at long distances is disclosed. The navigational instrument (1) has an internal flux gate magnetometer (70), solid state temperature sensor (28), solid state barometric pressure sensor (68), infrared sensor (30), and real time clock. The navigational instrument (1) has a foldable LCD display (5) for outputting the desired navigational information and a keyboard (7) for instructing or inputting information through an internal microprocessor (40). A protractor/graduated scale (3) and a pop-up lens (9) extend from the navigational instrument (1) for use in orienteering, mapping or course plotting. An optical input/output port (22) for serially interfacing between the internal CPU (88) of the instrument (1) and another electronic device, computer or the like, is also provided.</p> |
