<p>The invention relates essentially to a computer and a process for starting up said computer. The invention concerns a computer provided with the possibility of booting from external input-output peripherals as, for example, a reader (8) of 5 1/4 inch diskettes. Loading the operating system from an external diskette reader (8) makes possible the use of software comprising its own operating systems (known as self-booting) together with computers comprising internally only diskette readers of a different format.
