PURPOSE:To record in a high recording density by receiving and storing multilevel dot information of a first recording dot density, calculating the stored multilevel dot information as predetermined to generate multilevel dot information of a second recording dot density, and pulse-width-modulating it on the basis of it. CONSTITUTION:An image signal VDO3 of one bit of an image signal VDO fed externally is alternately latched in latches 23 and 24 by a clock VCLK/2 frequency-divided by two from a VCLK. Latched two quaternary data are added by a full adder 26. As a result, the four more significant bits of 5 bits are taken the added value thereby is divided by two, and its average value is obtained. In the interpolation in a vertical direction, interpolated data regarding the vertical direction is formed from the data interpolated by an interpolating circuit 17. 4-bit image signal VDO' interpolated in both horizontal and vertical directions is input from a data line 100 to a lookup table 42 in synchronism with a synchronizing clock 109, and gradation-corrected. |
