<p>The roughness measuring device (6) is placed in proximity to the strip (3) with its observation face turned towards this strip (3). A space (8) is defined, which surrounds the roughness measuring device, this space being open in the direction of the surface of the strip, and the atmosphere situated in proximity to the strip is drawn through this space. Advantageously, the space (8) is closed and the aspiration of the atmosphere is interrupted during the periods when no roughness measurements are being made. The protection device comprises a casing (7) surrounding the roughness measuring device (6) at a distance, this casing (7) being provided with means (9) for drawing the aforementioned atmosphere through the space (8), as well as with means for protecting the observation face of the roughness measuring device (6).</p> |
