In fuel injection nozzles of the generic type the flattening (30, 50) on the throttling pintle (20, 20a) of the valve needle is to be designed so that in the pilot injection lift the fuel spray jets emerge at least approximately parallel to the nozzle axis resulting in a gently starting delivery of the sprayed fuel even in the case of heavy coke residue. To achieve this object the invention proposes that the combustion chamber end area of the flattening (30, 50) should terminate such that it runs at least approximately parallel to the nozzle axis on the rim edge (42). Prechamber diesel engines are the preferred sphere of application. <IMAGE>
