Method for increasing the displacement of a valve-timed reciprocating piston internal combustion engine

In a method for increasing the displacement of an existing valve-timed reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, the cylinder intervals are increased thereby making it possible to increase the cylinder diameter whilst retaining the minimum web width between the cylinders. The distance between the inlet and exhaust units of adjacent cylinders, however, is retained. As a result machining of the cylinder head can be performed with the existing machine facilities without significant modifications.
