This invention relates to a setting method of an NC data output format capable of setting and changing NC data by use of characters of symbols without using functional codes. According this method, an NC data output format is expressed by characters or symbols. The format is inputted through an operation panel (19) using characters or symbols, which are converted to internal codes by use of a table in a RAM (15) and stored in a RAM (14). When the NC data output format is corrected, the format stored in RAM (14) is converted from the internal codes to the characters or symbols by use of the table in RAM (15) and then displayed on a display (16). The portions to be corrected are designated and corrected by the characters or symbols and the corrected NC data output system is converted to the internal code.
