Process and arrangement for carrying out the process for separating off organic impurities from exhaust gases which are forced through a vessel-enclosed biomass as absorbent, in which the impurities are at least in part decomposed by metabolic processes of microorganisms colonising the absorbent, at least two filter units I and II being provided and the exhaust gases being fed to the particular absorbent until it is saturated, the feed of the exhaust gases being thereupon interrupted until the microorganisms colonising the absorbent of filter unit I have broken down the pollutants and during the interruptions the exhaust gas being conducted through at least one further filter unit II identical in construction to the first absorbent but independent thereof, and vice versa, cf. Figure 1.
