PURPOSE:To obtain a totally-coated wire for a dot printer enabling clear printing of dots by coating the whole of a hard metal wire without a hard layer at an end face thereof and having a coating hard layer only at an outer peripheral face thereof, with a hard layer. CONSTITUTION:A wire coated with a hard metal is prepared which has a flat end face 3 not coated with a hard layer and a hard layer 2 coated only in an outer peripheral surface thereof. This hard metal wire can be manufactured by cutting a wire coated with hard metal having a hard layer at the outer peripheral surface thereof or cutting an end of a round shoulder of a wire obtained by coating a general hard metal wire with a hard layer through PVD (ion plating) process. The surface of the hard metal wire without a hard layer at the front end face thereof and with a coating hard layer only at the outer peripheral face thereof is further coated with a hard layer through PVD process. As a result, sufficient abrasion resistance to a long-time printing is ensured and the flatness of the front end face can be maintained for a long term. |
