The device comprises a framework mounted on piles and supporting a plurality of floats connected to arms 13 for transmitting motion due to wave action to an output shaft by means of ratchet devices. A wind driven rotor 35 having pivotable vanes 37 is also provided and contributes to the power output of the device. A water level sensor unit, comprising a float, is also provided and a mechanism associated therewith enables the framework to be raised or lowered in response to changes in water level. Details are given of the gearing, couplings, bearings and shafting necessary for transmitting drive through the device, for controlling the vanes 37 of the wind driven rotor, and for adjusting the height of the framework.
