A shaft 3 of bearing steel is formed with a number of inclined grooves 20. An annular member or pulley seat 5 of lower hardness than the shaft 3 is press fitted thereon so that the material of the annular member 5 protrudes into the grooves 20. A rust-preventing oil is applied to the shaft 3 before fitting to improve the joint, and generally remains after fitting. The joint is suitable for connecting a shaft of an automobile water pump to a fan pulley seat 5 as shown. ……
