PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition preventing deterioration of blood and enhancing blood containing an alkali phosphoenolpyruvate, mannitol, citric acid (sodium citrate), sodium hydrogenphosphate and sodium chloride. CONSTITUTION:A blood additive composition comprising an aqueous solution at pH5.0-8.0 containing (A) 5-70mM/l alkali phosphoenolpyruvate (Na or K salt hydrate is preferably used), (B) 10-150mM/l mannitol for reinforcing cell membrane and preventing hemolysis, (C) 0-5mM/l citric acid and/or sodium citrate for preventing coagulating action of blood, (D) 0-20-mM/l sodium hydrogenphosphate as a buffering agent and (E) 0-100mM/l sodium chloride to adjust osmotic pressure. The composition is heated to 37 deg.C approximately close to bodily temperature and blended with extracorporeal blood in the ratio of 0.5-2vol. of the composition to 1vol. extracorporeal blood. |
