PURPOSE:To obtain a printer having no discontinuity on the midway of printing by a method wherein a size of paper set as a printing target is detected, an utmost peripheral line of a printing area determined according to the detected size is generated as a part of test pattern data, and a test pattern is printed on the basis of the generated pattern data. CONSTITUTION:A sub-scanning dot register 445 inputs a detected size from a CPU bus and outputs it. A signal outputted from an OR circuit 4437 and a signal outputted from an OR circuit 4467 are inputted to an OR circuit 447. Therefore, with the input of an ON signal from either of them, to the OR circuit 447 outputs a printing signal. Moreover, the printing signal is inputted to a terminal A of a selector 450. If the terminal A has been selected by a mode selection, a laser optical system prints the signal as a test pattern. In this manner, an utmost peripheral line of an area to be printed is printed. Therefore, if the line is discontinuous, the printer can be regarded as faulty. |
