PURPOSE: To deodorize the subject extract having tranquilizing properties and to remove the cause of cloudiness by extracting it from ground valerian root with water, concentrating the extracted solution into a fixed dried content, adding an alcohol, precipitating a gelatinous substance, etc. CONSTITUTION: This extract is extracted from ground valerian root with water at least once and the aqueous extract is concentrated to 10-20% dried content. An alcohol and acetone are added to the concentration and a gelatinous substance to cause the cloudy appearance of a beverage reconstructed from the power is precipitated. The resultant solution is centrifuged to give a water- alcohol mixture or a water-acetone mixture, to which a carbohydrate is added. Then the formed mixture is dried to give an instant deodorized extract powder of valerian root. Preferably, the extraction of valerian root with water is carried out at 65-75 deg.C for 2-5 hours three times. The concentration process is performed at 30-60 deg.C under 2.10<4> to 2.10<3> pa. |
