The invention relates to recombinant bacteria such as those obtained by modification of wild-type bacteria belonging to the family of Bacillaceae, which are different from B. sphaericus, having a toxic activity towards Diptera larvae especially of the mosquito or simuliid family. The invention also relates to recombinant vectors containing a DNA sequence which is foreign to the genome of the above wild-type bacterium and which is capable of producing a protein or an active protein portion having the toxic activity defined above. The invention also relates to the use of the recombinant bacteria in larvicidal compositions.
