PURPOSE:To always enhance the energy of the focusing position to the maximum by measuring a thickness distribution in the width direction of each metallic strip at the upstream side of the welding region and regulating one factor at least of the torch height and the torch traveling speed or the torch oscillator output. CONSTITUTION:The thickness distribution of each of metallic strips to be joined is measured in advance by using a measuring instrument such as a profile gage at the upstream side of a laser beam welding machine to grasp the thickness distribution in the width direction of the metallic strip. In addition, based on this thickness distribution, in the welding region, the machining height of a laser beam torch (distance from the torch tip to the metallic strip), the torch traveling speed and the output of a laser beam oscillator, etc., are controlled. By this method, the energy of the focusing position is always enhanced to the maximum and a stable welded joint is obtained without being influenced by thickness variation of the metallic strip. |
