PURPOSE:To easily obtain a solvent for dye used for a pressure sensitive paper having an extremely high solubility to the dye and high quality by a method wherein an anthracene oil subjected to specified rough distillation is subjected to acid cleaning, and is then subjected to specified hydrogenation and specified precise distillation. CONSTITUTION:An anthracene oil having a nitrogen concentration of about 8,000ppm is subjected to rough distillation in the temperature range of 290-360 deg.C, and is then subjected to acid cleaning to have a nitrogen concentration of about 5,000ppm, followed by hydrogenation with a hydrogenation degree of 1-8 to obtain a hydrogenated product with a nitrogen concentration of 100-2,500ppm. The hydrogenated product is subjected to precise distillation in the temperature range of 250-350 deg.C to obtain a fraction with a nitrogen concentration of 10-250ppm. The rough distillation removes unnecessary fractions such as carbazole, and alleviate the load at the time of the hydrogenation. The acid cleaning removes basic nitrogen compounds, whereas the hydrogenation removes hetero-atoms, and simultaneously achieves hydrogenation of nuclei, thereby increasing the fluidity of the product. By the precise distillation, it is possible to remove lighter fractions having strong odors and heavier fractions which would worsen the hue of the product, from the product. |
