PURPOSE:To obtain a sensor protecting structure which can make a strong buffering action against an outside shock and, at the same time, can give little thermal influence to internal constituents by fixing a detecting element section and a cylindrical body which protects lead wires connected with the detecting element section to a main body fitting. CONSTITUTION:A detecting element section 8 constituted of an oxygen detecting element 4 and heater 6 is housed in a housing composed of a main body fitting 10 and cylindrical bodies 12, 13, and 14 and, when a caulking section 30 is caulked, the element 4 is fixed in the housing 16 by means of a sleeve 32 and talc powder 33 arranged on the inner periphery of the fitting 10. Lead wires 20 are connected to upper ends of plural fittings 18 for terminal projected from the section 8. Moreover, outer peripheral sections of the cylindrical bodies 13 and 14 are covered with cylindrical shock buffering members 40 made of stainless steel at prescribed intervals. One end section 41 of each members 40 is fixed to the fitting 10 by welding, while the other end section 42 is not fixed to the cylindrical body 14, etc., but kept a free end. Therefore, even when a flipped stone, etc., hits the member 40, the striking energy is absorbed and the internal structure is not damaged. |
