<p>An apparatus for conveying articles, such as pistons (12,14) includes an endless conveyor surface (22) and guide members (36,38,40,42) which together define a conveyor path (24). The pistons (12,14) may be freely inserted onto the conveyor surface (22) at an opening (54). Spacers, such as spacer (62), are introduced, in a freely disposed manner, onto the conveyor surface (22) after each piston (12,14) by a pusher mechanism (70). Each spacer has a steoped cylindrical configuration and the spacers are made from a relatively inelastic and non-compressible material, such as polyethylene. The spacers provide protective separation between the pistons.</p> |
