PURPOSE:To easily obtain a solvent for dye used for a pressure sensitive paper having an extremely high solubility to the dye and high quality by a method wherein an anthracene oil freed from crystal which has been subjected to rough distillation under specified conditions is subjected to specified hydrogenation and specified precise distillation. CONSTITUTION:An anthracene oil freed from crystal and having a nitrogen concentration of about 7,000ppm is subjected to rough distillation in the temperature range of 290-360 deg.C, and is then subjected to hydrogenation with a hydrogenation degree of 1-8 to obtain a nitrogen concentration of 100-3,500ppm. The hydrogenated product is subjected to precise distillation in the temperature range of 250-350 deg.C to obtain a fraction with a nitrogen concentration of 10-350ppm. The rough distillation removes unnecessary fractions such as carbazole, and alleviate the load at the time of the hydrogenation. The hydrogenation removes hetero-atoms such as oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur atoms from the anthracene oil freed from crystal, and achieves hydrogenation of nuclei, thereby increasing the fluidity of the product. Further, by the precise distillation it is possible to remove lighter fractions having strong odors and heavier fractions which would worsen the hue of the hydrogenated product, from the product. |
