Alkynes is removed by contacting liquid hydrocarbon stream with catalyst comprising finely divided Cu and minor amounts of polyvalent activator metals for example Ag, Pt, Pd, Mn, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo dispersed on high purity gamma alumina support. The gamma alumina has 68-350 sq. m/g surface area, 90-60% pores with pore dia. 40-120 A and 2-25% pores with pore dis. 1000-10000A. The catalyst decreases the hydrogenation of valuable diolelins without decreasing the hydrogenation of the alkynes. |
