A copolymer useful as light stabilizer comprises the repeating units of formula (I) and the repeating units of formula (II). The obtd. copolymer has ave. molecular wt. of 1000-50000 (pref. 1000-10000). In formulas, R1 is H, halogen, or alkyl; R2 is alkyl or aralkyl; R3 is H or alkyl; R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, carbonyl-substd. alkyl, (-CH2)n-X3-R6-GH2-(OR8)CH-CH2 OR7, -(C2-H4O-)mR9, -(C3H6O)p-R10, (a), -(CH2-C(OR12)H-R13 or (b); X1, and X2 are -O-, -NH-N(R15)-, -N(R16)- or -N(R17)-; X3 is -O-, -N(R18)- or (c); Y is halogen; n, m and p are 1-20.
