PURPOSE:To accurately discriminate the color information of a color original without increasing the scale of a circuit by deciding it based on information for identifying a white color, an achromatic color and a chromatic color, which is given every picture element, whether the original is a black-and-white one or a color original and controlling image forming processing based on the decided result. CONSTITUTION:An encoded signal (color code data) corresponding to the chromatic color, the achromatic color and the white color is outputted every picture element from a color code generation means 30. The color code data is supplied to a means 47 for discriminating the black-and-white color and the chromatic color so as to decide whether the original is the black-and-white one or the color original. The decision output is incorporated in a CPU which controls a color original processor so as to decide the appropriate number of image forming processing times, etc. Therefore, whether the original is the black-and- white one or the color original is decided by applying the output from the color code generation means as it is. Thus, the constitution of a discrimination means for discriminating the black-and-white original from the color original is simplified. |
