The method for preparing 5-(naphthyl)-2,4-dialkyl-3H-1,2,4triazole-3- thiones (I) used in the treatment of melancholia comprises: (a) mixing 1M NaHCO3 with the mixture containing 1-(2naphtyoyl)-2,4- dimethylthiosemicarbazide and heat-treating; (b) cooling the above mixture to room temperature and filtering; (c) washing the filterate with water and crystalizing with isopropyl alcohol to obtain the product. In (I), R is halogen, C1-C6 lower alkyl, C1-C6 lower alkoxy, hydroxy, methylenedioxy or trifluoromethyl; R2 and R4 is C1-C6 lower alkyl or hydrozen.
