The compounds (I) which are inhibitors of mammalian collagenase and elastase are new. In (I), R1 is hydrogen, halo, nitro, amino, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, or hdyroxy; R2 is halo, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, amino, nitro or trifluoromethyl. Tricyclic mesoionic didehydro mixture is reacted with cysteine in organic solvent to prepare compounds (I) and their salts usable pharmaceutically.
