<p>PURPOSE:To save a use less calculation and to suppress the entire required arithmetic quantity of movement compensation processing by applying intermediate check for inter-block distortion calculation and discriminating whether or not the succeeding calculation is consecutive depending on the result of the intermediate check. CONSTITUTION:The approximation between patterns is calculated depending on a difference and an accumulation of in-block picture elements between a block of a present input frame and M-set of blocks in a preceding input frame so as to detect a block giving a minimum distortion, and led number of picture elements used for the pattern approximation calculation be K at maximum, 4 intermediate checks are conducted during the calculation of approximation when the reference picture element number is smaller than K and the intermediate check points are provided for each 1/4 sample. When the distortion dil obtained by the distortion calculation at K sample points is as di1>d1' in the succeeding discrimination, the block is cancelled, and if not, the calculation is continued and the distortion di2 is calculated by the distortion calculation at the K sample point. In the case of di2>d2' in the next discrimination, the distortion is canceled and if not, the calculation is consecutive. Then the distortion di3 is calculated at the distortion calculation at the K sample point.</p> |
