PURPOSE:To flatten the dependency of the display color in a bright state on wavelengths by adding a dichromatic coloring matter which imparts complementary color to the display color at the time of non-addition to the liquid crystal element of a polymer phase plate system. CONSTITUTION:The phase plate 2 is laminated on a liquid crystal cell 1 and is held in place between polarizing plates 3 and 3. A fluorescent lamp 4 as a light source is disposed on the side opposite to the phase plate 2 with the liquid crystal cell 1 in-between. A liquid crystal compsn. added with a small amt. of the dichromatic coloring matter is sealed in the liquid crystal cell 1. The dichromatic coloring matter which imparts the complementary color to the display color of the liquid crystal element at the time of non-addition is added to the compsn. The dependency of the transmitted light on the wavelengths is additionally flattened in this way and the sharp black and white display is enabled. |
