The package 1 being of rectangular type with four walls 4, 5, a bottom 3 and four cavities 6, for example dihedra, a plastic foam which is unexpanded and thickened or in the course of expansion, such as a polyurethane foam, is injected into the cavities 6 and the foam is allowed to expand in the cavities 6 inside which it hardens while adhering to the walls by diffusing into the latter. This injection can be performed after finishing of the package 1 or in the course of its manufacture when the cavities 6 have not yet been closed. The foam injection considerably reinforces the resistance of the package to vertical compression and to side stresses during its storage and its transport. <IMAGE>
