PURPOSE: To reduce dye stain after processing as well as to impart superior photographic sensitivity by incorporating a specified compd. as a sensitizing dye reagent. CONSTITUTION: This photographic material includes a substrate with a silver halide emulsion layer sensitized with a dye represented by formula I, wherein Y is S or Se, each of L<1> -L<5> is methine, A is N-R<3> , O or S, B ms N-R<4> when A is O or S, B is N-R<4> , S or O when A is N-R<3> , each of R<1> -R<4> is l-4C alkyl, acid or acid salt substd. 1-4C alkyl, 6-10C aryl or acid or acid salt substd. 6-10C aryl, R<5> is 1-4C alkyl, (n) is 0, 1 or 2, X is a counter ion and at least two of R<1> -R<4> are substd. groups. Superior photosensitivity is ensured and dye stain after processing can be reduced.
