PURPOSE:To shorten an image data communication time in average by discriminating data quantity and decreasing the effect of a load onto a network in response to the data quantity or minimizing the time delivered to an opposite station. CONSTITUTION:When an image data transferred to other station and not compressed exists in a main storage device 4, a control section 3 allows a communication quantity monitor 8 to calculate a communication load quantity at that point of time, compares the value with a predetermined reference value, and when the value is higher than the reference value, the transferring image data is encoded and compressed by a compressor 5 and the compressed image data is sent to a local area network 2 by a communication controller 6. When the communication load quantity is lower than the reference value, the image data is singly sent to the communication controller 6. Thus, the communication time of the image data of end-to-end is decreased in average.
