Shock absorber for absorbing traction forces, for example, for a boat's mooring rope, comprising a compression spring (5) and two flanges (1) arranged head to tail alongside of one another in intersecting planes and constituted by two wires or rigid rods which are bent back on themselves, so as to form a loop (2) constituting the head or hooking ring (2) of said flanges (1) and two parallel arms (3) embedded within said spring (5) and whose extremities are outwardly bent at one end, so as to constitute hooks (4) which are hung onto the latter's corresponding final turn (5a); said shock absorber is characterized in that it comprises also a tubular sheath (6) within which is embedded the compression spring (5), whereby the sheath (6) comprises four longitudinal tracks (9), in which are coupled, with sliding capability, the bent extremeties (4) of the arms (3) of the flanges (1).
