PURPOSE:To enhance the high speed recording properties of a thermal recording material without bringing about a lowering of whiteness by constituting the title additive of a specific hydantoin derivative. CONSTITUTION:An additive for a thermal recording material is composed of a hydrantoin derivative represented by formula I. This hydantoin derivative can be synthesized by reacting a hydantoin compound represented by formula II with a halogen compound represented by formula III in an alkaline aqueous solution. As the hydantoin compound thus obtained, 3-benzylhydantoin, 3- benzyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin, 1,3-dibenzylhydantoin, 3-ethylphenylhydantoin and 3-ethylphenyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin are designated. |
