PURPOSE:To eliminate the needs for knowing a network constitution and a file transfer system between both computers performing transfer by automatically selecting and performing the file transfer system from the name of a transfer destination file and a transfer destination host. CONSTITUTION:When the name of the transfer source host, the name of the file, the name of the transfer destination host and the name of the file are designated, a file characteristic detection means 1 detects the file system and the size of the transfer source file, and a transfer system selection mans 2 refers a transfer system table 5 and decides an optimum file transfer system. A designation system conversion means 3 refers the transfer system table 5 and converts the name of the transfer source host, the name of the transfer source file, the name of the transfer destination host and the name of the transfer destination file based on the input system of the file transfer system. A command start means 4 performs a file transfer command by using the converted input system. Thus, file transfer can accurately be performed without being conscious of the network constitution between both computers performing file transfer and the file transfer system to be performed.
