PURPOSE:To execute the nearly perfect liquid crystal orientation and to improve the quality of the orientation treatment by forming an oriented film on a substrate with electrodes of a Langmuir-Blodgette film and subjecting the surface of the oriented film to a rubbing treatment. CONSTITUTION:The oriented film 21 of the substrate 22 for a liquid crystal display is formed of the Langmuir-Blodgette film (LB film). The LB film is formed by using a device which is ordinarily used, mounting the substrate with electrodes to the upper and lower arms of the device, immersing the substrate into a monomolecular film and gradually pulling up the substrate to stick the film to the substrate. The oriented film materials are polyimide, photosensitive polyimide, SiO2, acrydyl ammonium chloride, etc., and the oriented film is formed by laminating 50 layers to 0.1 to 0.2mum. The retardation value is increased and the good degree of orientation is exhibited if the LB film is rubbed. The improvement in the image quality is attained as well. |
