PURPOSE:To perform proper printing automatically by detecting an identification mark by a sensor in the condition where an ink ribbon cassette provided with the identification mark and capable of detachably fitted to a printer is fitted to the printer, and controlling printing conditions according to the detection results. CONSTITUTION:After a carriage 2 with an ink ribbon cassette 1 mounted there on is fed to an initial position, the carriage is so moved that a bar code 4 and a photo-detector 3 face each other, and information carried by the bar code 4 is detected. The information detected is converted into an analog electri cal signal, which is inputted to a detecting circuit 10 to discriminate white/black information of the bar code 4, and the while/black information is inputted to a driving controlling circuit 11 as a digital electrical signal. The information of the signal inputted from the circuit 10 is discriminated, and a memory 13 is accessed to fetch set values for printing conditions into the driving controlling circuit 11. The set values are sent as output signals to a driving circuit 12, which drives a recording head 6 based on the signals, thereby printing. |
