PURPOSE:To obtain an ionomer improved in high-temperature mechanical strengths without detriment to its inherent excellent properties by an economical and easy operation, by crosslinking the ionomer with an olefin copolymer having an epoxy group in a side chain. CONSTITUTION:A crosslinked ionomer is produced by mixing 100 pts.wt. ionomer (A) (e.g., Na<+> ion-neutralized ethylene/methacrylic acid copolymer) with 0.1-5 pts.wt. olefin copolymer (B) having an epoxy group in a side chain (e.g., ethylene/vinyl acetate/glycidyl methacrylate copolymer), and reacting the mixture under melt kneading. In this way, the high-temperature mechanical strengths of the ionomer can be improved without detriment to its excellent properties such as heat sealability, low odor, transparency and heat bondability by an economical and easy crosslinking process. |
