PURPOSE: To increase surge performances of a compressor stage in a turbocharger provided to an engine by forming an outer housing wall about a housing wall surrounding vanes of an impeller so as to define a gas venting chamber communicating with an impeller chamber by the two walls. CONSTITUTION: A compressor stage assembly 11 of a turbocharger assembly comprises an impeller 23 fixed on a common shaft 14 with a turbo wheel 19 of the turbocharger assembly 12, and a compressor cover 31 having an impeller chamber for receiving the impeller 23. The compressor cover 31 has an annular diffuser passage 35. In this case, vanes 39 of the impeller 23 are arranged with outer free edges 47 thereof adjacent to an inner housing surface 49 of a housing wall 51. An outer housing 55 is arranged about the housing wall 51, being annularly disposed about an outer housing surface 53 of the said wall. A gas venting chamber 57 is defined between the outer housing 55 and the outer housing surface 53, communicating with an impeller chamber via gas vents 59, 61. |
